Moving with houseplants 🪴📦
Share
Moving is stressful not only for us but also for our green roommates.
This is a rather current topic for us, as the time is soon approaching when we will move into the new shop with the plants ✨
Therefore, to match the topic, here are a few tips and tricks on how not only robust plants but also sensitive species can survive your move well.
Before the move
- Lightly prune your plants a few days before the move, if necessary. This way, they can be transported better and nothing can bend or break off.
- Perform pest control and any necessary treatment to ensure no unwanted critters move with you.
- Water in good time again, but not directly on moving day (soil that is too wet makes transport difficult).
- If necessary, replace fragile pots with lighter decorative pots or pad them well.
During the move
- Place plants in sturdy boxes/crates, fill gaps with newspapers or blankets to prevent anything from shifting.
- It's better to loosely wrap large plants with foil or fleece to protect leaves and branches.
- Avoid placing your plants in cold or hot moving vans. If possible, transport them in your car instead.
- In general, it is advisable to transport your delicate and more sensitive plants separately.
After the move
- Unpack your plants as quickly as possible and place them in their designated spot.
- Give your plants some time before fertilizing them again. This way, they can recover from the stress of moving and settle into their new home.
- Remove any dried or damaged leaves.
And generally -> Observe your plants:
Slight stress symptoms such as leaf drop are normal and usually disappear after a few weeks.
Conclusion
Moving with many houseplants is a small challenge, but it's manageable if you keep a few things in mind. And with a little patience and care, they are sure to thrive just as splendidly as before. 🌱
